Alex Eala Brings Back Her Ruffled Socks to a Fan Meet with Nike

In the third round of this year's Wimbledon, Alex Eala defeated defending champion and then-world No. 1 Iga Swiatek. The victory made Alex the first Filipina in the Open Era to reach the fourth round of the prestigious Grand Slam tournament.

"I went to training with my brother and my grandfather every day after school with my ruffled socks and my light-up shoes and chubby cheeks, so to her, this is everything," the rising athlete said in her emotional post-match interview, proving that she has made not only the country, but also her younger self proud.

The 21-year-old returned to the Philippines on July 12 and headed to Nike Fort in Bonifacio Global City the following day for a special fan meet.

For the occasion, she wore a comfortable white T-shirt emblazoned with the phrase, "Kapag lumago, hindi na hihinto"—the inspiring mantra introduced during her recent Wimbledon campaign through her custom visor.

She paired the shirt with cuffed sweatpants and mules, leaving just enough of her ankles exposed to draw attention to the outfit's most meaningful detail: her ruffled socks.

More than a styling choice, the socks paid tribute to her beginnings, recalling the pair she wore as a young girl during daily tennis training. Once simply an accessory—and a practical necessity—they have since evolved into a symbol of perseverance, encouragement, and how far she has come.
