Alex Eala Stuns at the 2026 Laureus World Sports Awards in a Filipiniana

Alex Eala has had a whirlwind year competing at different tennis opens around the world. After elevating her Women's Tennis Association ranking to no. 44—the highest placement of a Filipina player in history—she attended the 2026 Laureus World Sports Awards in Spain this April 20. Often considered the "Oscars of sports," the ceremony recognized the most remarkable achievements by athletes over the past year.

For such a momentous occasion, Alex donned a fresh interpretation of the Filipiniana, which was actually designed by her uncle, Rhett Eala.

The Gen Z prodigy graced the red carpet in a modest but chic champagne-hued ensemble. The look featured a woven bustier, a floor-grazing gown, and a bolero that starred twin butterfly sleeves. To accentuate the OOTD, Alex wore topaz-hued jewelry and a tennis bracelet, and wore her tresses in a sleek side part.

As simple as it is, the look totally suited Alex's demure image, and was a fitting tribute to her Filipina roots. It also reflected the elegant stylings of her uncle Rhett, who has greatly contributed to keeping the terno in today's sartorial conversation.

At the event, Alex got to rub shoulders with many of the sporting world's finest, including 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic and Olympic gold medalist Eileen Gu. "Sandwiched between greatness," Alex captioned in an Instagram story.
