Based on our Instagram feeds, a slew of fashionistas have been getting their denim fix from Acne Studios, particularly through their Trompe l'oeil jeans. The Acne Studios Trompe l'oeil Jeans
French for "deceives the eye," trompe l'oeil refers to an optical illusion made using realistic two-dimensional images that appear three-dimensional. Popularized during the Renaissance period, it's an art technique that has since breached into fashion, with many designers and brands implementing the style in their collections.
In the case of Swedish luxury house Acne Studios, the trompe l'oeil is best exhibited through their 1981 jeans. Modeled after the baggy shapes and mid-rise waistlines of the '80s, these washed denim pieces are given heaps of attitude with imprints of chains, pearls, trinkets—what have you! Created to be a statement of its own, the jeans are inspired by eclectic streetwear, mirroring the look you get from denim pants you liberally adorn and wear to death. Online, a pair goes for upwards of P50,000.

Given the trompe l'oeil's one-of-a-kind design, it makes sense that a number of style stars across the region have added a pair (or two) to their rotations. Thai heartthrob Win Metawin wears his light-washed ones everywhere, including vacations to climates cooler than Bangkok's.
The Philippines' very own Mimiyuuuh has gone on record to say that Acne Studios denim is one of her favorites, and we totally see why. The quirky accents of the trompe l'oeil totally suit her wardrobe! On a European excursion, she threw on the baggy pair with sneakers, statement jackets, and capacious carriers.
Meanwhile, XO, Kitty leading man Sang Heon Lee has also been spotted in trompe l'oeils, which he simply teams with a tank top and his signature smolder. When you have jeans this good, you don't need much else!
