Leila Alcasid is all grown up. And if her ABS-CBN Ball 2019 dress is any indication, it's quite clear that the singer is now ready to show her mature side. She approached celebrity stylist Danae Dipon with the intention of wearing a dress with a "bustier and corset." A no-nonsense choice, especially "since she’s turning 22 this year."
With this in mind, Danae tapped local designer Vania Romoff to create Leila's modern Filipiniana dress for the ball. And in an interview with Preview, Vania shares that she looked at "vintage corsets, bustiers, pleating, and the traditional Filipiniana dress which is the terno" as her inspirations.
"The dress was modernized in a way that the traditional piña fabric—which is entirely used for the top part of the dress—was manipulated in such styles or designs that aren’t usually done with it," says the designer. This was apparent in the "pleating details that were used to construct a bustier with an exposed corset." Vania then "[formed] it to a continuous terno sleeves draping as a cape down to the back." Her look was completed with a floral clutch by Bea Valdes.
As for Leila's beauty look, makeup artist Anthea Bueno gave her a fresh glowing look accented by a berry lip. This went nicely with hairstylist Mark Familara's vintage-inspired waves on Leila's lob.
