A 15-year old girl will be wearing Tony Stark’s Iron Man suit in the Marvel comic book universe this year.
According to Marvel, Riri Williams is a science genius who enrolls in MIT, catching the attention of Stark as she creates her own Iron Man armor in her dorm from scratch. Iron Man writer Brian Michael Bendis’ inspiration for Riri’s character stemmed from a TV show he was working on that did not end up airing due to the amount of violence and chaos it had.
He tells Time Magazine, "The story of this brilliant young woman whose life was marred by tragedy that could have easily ended her life—just random street violence—and who went off to college was very inspiring to me. I thought that was the most modern version of a superhero or superheroine story I had ever heard."
Riri first appears in the Invicible Iron Man #7, following the events of Civil War II. We can’t wait for her costume and new suit!
