A Cinderella Story: Part 1

The Cinderella Designers' Competition finale
A Cinderella Story: Part 1 The Cinderella Designers' Competition finale

Hoping to give one aspiring designer the happily-ever-after to their own fashion fairy tale, the Cinderella Marketing Corporation scoured the country for the freshest and finest Filipino fashion talent with the launch of its Designers' Competition.

From the months of July to September, wannabe designers scurried to send in three day-to-evening menswear or womenswear sketches inspired by the theme Innovatively Global and Fashionably Summer for 2009. Up for grabs for the first-placer? A one year Fashion Design scholarship at the School of Fashion and the Arts (SOFA), and the chance to design for the clothing giant Cinderella. Not bad. Not bad at all.

In the end, though, only five made it to the final cut-Joanne Lesaca, Niño Dominic Angeles, Eugene Lloyd Oliva, Brandon Labador Parreñas and Abe Jachem Capio. These auspicious top-notchers unveiled their collections last October 21 at the Manila Peninsula, to an audience of fashionistas and fans alike, under the discerning eyes of judges Loralee Baron-Soong of SOFA, Cinderella's Marielle Santos-Po and Dennis Castillo, top fashion photographer Sara Black, and Designers Rusty Lopez and Ito Curata.

Which designer took the prize and snagged that much-coveted happily-ever-after? Click on to find out.
