Alessandra Ambrosio might be hanging up her Angel wings!

Despite the many controversies surrounding the much-awaited 2017 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show (a.k.a. the likes of Gigi Hadid and Katy Perry announcing last minute that they won’t make it because they were reportedly denied a visa), the biggest lingerie show on earth did not fall short when it came to making headlines. The Victoria’s Secret Angels conquered not only Shanghai but all of our Instagram feeds, and we can’t wait to see the entirety of it when the show airs on November 28! But for now, here are the evening’s biggest surprises that we know of so far:

1. Candice Swanepoel opened the show.

Candice, who just gave birth last year, returned to the VS runway and opened the show with a bang. The South African VS Angel kicked things off in a black and red plaid look with a fully sequined train designed by Balmain’s creative director, Olivier Rousteing. Needless to say, she killed it yet again!

2. Karlie Kloss made an epic comeback on the VS runway.

Three years after Karlie hung up her Angel wings, the 25-year-old supermodel gave Shanghai a pleasant surprise by returning to the VS runway. She looked ethereal as always in a sheer white robe with blue and silver metallic accents that befit her feathered, leaf-like wings. In another segment, she donned a red tartan look punctuated by a pair of thigh-high leather boots.

3. It might be Alessandra Ambrosio’s last VS Fashion Show.

There are rumors surrounding the retirement of Alessandra, one of Victoria Secret’s most iconic Angels. The 36-year-old supermodel first walked for the lingerie brand when she was only 20 years old and has done 17 shows since. She has even worn the most coveted Fantasy Bra not just once but twice, for the first time in 2012 and again in 2014. When asked if she’ll still make a comeback next year, “I don’t know,” she said. “I can’t even believe that I’m here still. Never in my life would I dream of doing 17 shows, but I’m very happy to be here in China because it’s definitely the biggest show we’ve ever done.

4. Lais Ribeiro was the lucky Angel to wear this year’s Fantasy Bra.

Ever wondered what it feels like to wear a set of lingerie worth two million dollars? Lais Ribeiro sure knows the answer to that! The 27-year-old Angel had this year’s honor of walking down the VS runway clad in the most coveted Fashion Bra made of 6,000 gemstones (particularly blue topaz and yellow sapphires) and she looked nothing short of a golden goddess gracing the earth.

5. Ming Xi took an unexpected fall on the catwalk.

Perhaps one of the show’s biggest shockers was when Ming Xi took a tumble on the VS runway. The Chinese model, who’s now on her fifth year walking for the lingerie brand, tripped on her billowing train and fell on her knees. Brazilian model Gizele Oliveira helped her up and Ming recovered gracefully soon after. On her Instagram account, she thanked Gizele and her supporters who continued to cheer her on. “It was no doubt one of the hardest moments I have ever had to go through in my career, especially since the show was taking place in my hometown, in front of my mother's and my people's eyes,” she wrote. “However, the support I received from everyone yesterday was incredible and I am truly grateful to everyone who was there for me.”

6. Victoria’s Secret went from “Pink to Punk” in collaboration with Balmain.

The much-anticipated launch of Victoria’s Secret x Balmain’s limited-edition capsule collection was everything we imagined and more: sexy, unapologetically embellished, and rocker chic. VS Angels Alessandra Ambrosio, Lily Aldridge, Adriana Lima, Jasmine Tookes, and more debuted the exclusive designs on the runway, all of which will be available for sale starting November 28 in Victoria’s Secret stores and online at victoriassecret.com.
