5 Local Designers and Their International Counterparts

They make us proud!

Filipino fashion designers have proven over and over that their arena is no longer just within the country. For example, Michael Cinco has taken over the Middle East and has been dubbed the stylist of the stars, while Monique Lhuillier has been the go-to bridal gown designer in the US. It’s no surprise that Filipino talent can ride the waves of the global fashion scene. Just look at how the following designers will remind you of international aesthetic.

Vania Romoff  -  Toni Maticevski

Vania is known for marrying clean lines and femininity in her designs. Much like the Macedonian-born and Melbourne-based designer Toni Maticevski, her aesthetic is an ode to highlighting women’s silhouettes in simple elegance.

Jerome Salaya Ang - Herve Leger

Jerome Salaya Ang seamlessly stitches together edginess and texture. He can create drama on the runway, which somewhat reflects Herve Leger’s racy cut-outs that emphasize every woman’s sensuality.

Jun Escario - Christian Siriano

Both of these designers have flair in creatively manipulating fabrics. With no need for fancy embellishments, these two can flawlessly frame the ladies with their designs hinged on the dress’ structure.

Rajo Laurel - Vivienne Westwood

Being one of the local fashion industry’s pillars, Rajo pushes forward the Filipino fashion scene with a nod from the playful and colorful designs of Vivienne Westwood in his latest collection.

Jeffrey Rogador - Ground Zero

While the entries above focus on the opulence of Filipino designs, Jeffrey puts on center stage the creativity of the streets. Much like Hong Kong brand Ground Zero, he zeroes in on the eccentrics that reflect the vibrancy of our culture.
