Kim Jones has been surfing up a storm and looking really cute while she’s at it. Of course it helps that her accessory is Jericho Rosales, but no mind. We’ve rounded up five rad surf-borts to inspire you when you’re out shopping for your own, or even better, having one custom made. In any case, it’s time to graduate from that rental.

1. CHANEL

Chanel has been making logoed tennis rackets, skis, snowboards and basketballs, in addition to their surfboards. All of them carry crisp typography that is a hit with stripped-down surfers, like Gisele Bundchen in this Baz Luhrmann-directed video.

2. ALEXANDER WANG x HAYDENSHAPES

Alexander Wang collaborated with Australian company Haydenshapes for these marble-print beauties. They look like the real thing, but definitely won’t sink in water. To make them, photographs of marble slabs were digitally printed onto silk, then onto the boards. Try a similar print, or even a motif of other natural rock formations.

3. TOMMY HILFIGER

Art meets sport meets fashion, as Tommy Hilfiger commissioned modern artists like Lola Schnabel, Richard Phillips, Gary Simmons, and Raymond Pettibon to design these decks for their Surf Shack Boards collection. We especially love the tongue-out smiley on the Richard Phillips one. So easy to recreate with stickers.

PERFECT FOR: People who love Emojis.

4. KELLY WEARSTLER

The interior-designer-to-the-stars designed this decorative surfboard, whose only use is to be propped up on a wall for decor purposes. But if we were to peg it for a custom ride, we'd take inspiration from the wooden striped patterns. Note that although most modern boards are made of foam, there is a resurgence of wooden ones for the ultra-hipster who wants his board, like his farm-to-table diet, to be sustainable.

PERFECT FOR: Those who love to take #shelfies.

5. ETRO

The Italian fashion house started out doing interiors and home textiles in the ‘80s. After a trip to India, the Etro family debuted its trademark paisley, which adorns this fiery surfboard. You could transfer a similar pattern onto your board using a giant decal.
