The ways our closets are built determine how efficient we are when pulling together an outfit. And while not all of us have the luxury of having a custom made walk-in (we’re looking at you, Carrie Bradshaw), we all can use a few tips on how to get things organized and not look like a storm just hit (even if we know you spent the last 30 minutes ripping it apart just to find that cashmere sweater you’re wearing.) Herewith, 5 organizing hacks and 25 of the best closets culled from our favourite search engine: Pinterest.
Tip #1: Use it or lose it. Don’t be a hoarder and dispose of the things you know you’ll never use. Don’t be afraid to weed out your closet. Just like in a high-end department store, leave an inch of space between each hanger if you can - we know, it's difficult.
Tip #2: Maximize your space from floor to ceiling. Making use of the top shelf is a great way to save space. Stack hatboxes, or display beautiful paper bags from a memorable purchase.
Tip #3: Invest in dressers and consoles that would make organizing and storing your stuff a lot easier. Pick out wide and flat ones for your accessories (the better to see them with). A plush ottoman from which to sit and regard your entire wardrobe also wouldn't hurt.
Tip #4: Store your shoes in a separate area away from your clothes. This helps air them out, too, without mustying up the smell of your clothes.
Tip #5: Arrange clothes by color. This way it’ll be easier for you to locate things.
