Manila Hotel celebrated its 100th year anniversary last September 28 in haute couture Filipinana style with a fashion show of Francis Libiran, which, although not the hotel’s first—previous notables who showed at the venue include Auggie Cordero, Ben Farrales, Cesar Gaupo, Pitoy Moreno, Inno Sotto, Patis Tesoro, Ramon Valera, and even Gianni Versace in 1983—it is Francis’ maiden run at the Grand Dame, making it a milestone for both the hotel and the Tyra Banks-championed designer.

His trademark techniques came to the fore in his show entitled “100: The Francis Libiran Fashion Gala,” with his signature linear designs sparking delight from the illustrious attendees. Modern Filipiniana was the twist to the pieces, evident in the meticulous crystal embellishments, laser-cut mother-of-pearl detailing, and the aforementioned stark, Art Deco-inspired linearity that is the architecture-trained designer’s calling card.
