Who Is Eldrew Yulo? 5 Things About the Filipino Gymnast

There is another Filipino athlete who is proudly waving our flag all over the world, and his name is Karl Jahrel Eldrew Poquiz Yulo.

Known to many, Eldrew comes from a family of gymnasts. He is the younger brother of three-time World and two-time Olympic champion Carlos Yulo. Their youngest sibling, Elaiza Yulo, is also an artistic gymnast.

Having recently announced that he'll be moving to compete in senior level gymnastics, Eldrew took home a bronze medal for the horizontal bar at the 2026 Asian Games in Japan. He also placed both 7th in floor exercise and all-around.

1. He is an Aquarius.

Eldrew was born in Manila on January 24, 2008. The 18-year-old's primary education was at the Aurora A. Quezon Elementary School, and he is currently studying at Adamson University for his secondary education.

2. He always carries a notebook.

In an interview, Eldrew revealed that journaling is part of his daily routine. As a matter of fact, he has two notebooks—one for writing down his personal thoughts and another for keeping track of his athletic progress. He also shared that this practice of his came from Carlos, who advised him to record such things.

3. He is multilingual.

Eldrew revealed that he is also learning how to speak Nihongo. By learning Japanese, the athlete gets to communicate more effectively with his coach, Munehiro Kugimiya, who also happens to have coached Carlos.

4. He has multiple medals.

His first international competition took place in 2023 at the Asian Junior Artistic Gymnastics Championships, where he was awarded the silver medal in vault. Having made the decision to compete at the senior level, he first competed at the Baku World Cup last March 2026. In the same month, he won the gold for floor exercise at the Antalya World Cup.
