What to Do with Those Silica Gel Bags

Yup, they have a purpose.
What to Do with Those Silica Gel Bags Yup, they have a purpose.

You know those little baggies of transparent beads you find when you buy new shoes? Yup, the ones you throw away when you find them. Well, turns  out the little choking hazards have a use after all. Those little beads  are made up of silicon dioxide, something you can use to suck out the moisture from anything.

That said, here are a few reasons why you shouldn't be throwing those bags away:

1. SAVE A WET PHONE

After drying off any excess water from your phone, stick it in a container with a bunch of silica bags for a few days. Yes, a few days. You don't want to short circuit it from any leftover moisture.

2. KEEP SHOES FRESH

Stick a few of them in your sneakers for odor-free kicks.

3. KEEP SILVER SHINY

Silver tarnishes because of its reaction to the moisture in the air. Stick a silica bag in your jewelry box to prolong the life of your accessories.

4. PACK WITH WET CLOTHES

Gym rats, stick a few packets in your gym bag along with your sweaty clothes. You see, odor-inducing bacteria love warm, moist areas. But with a few packets of silica sucking up the moisture, it'll cut down the gym smell considerably.

Same goes for all you beach baes. When your wet swimmies don't dry fast enough, stash a few packs in your wet clothes bag to help speed up the process.

5. SAVE YOUR MAKEUP

With warm showers providing the ideal breeding ground for bacteria, keeping your makeup in the bathroom is a bad idea. But it doesn't mean some of us don't do it. To prevent that nasty bacteria from building up, grab a few silica bags and keep them especially close to your powder products.

6. KEEP YOUR CAMERA DRY

Waterproof cameras and phone cases have become staples for the summer. Thing is, those things fog up quick. Keep a couple of silica bags in your camera bag and keep the humidity away.
