Sobrang pagtitimpi dapat ‘yung meron ka kapag rider ka,” Angkas and Lalamove rider Chia Laron told Summit OG.

When the pandemic began and everyone had to stay home to prevent the COVID-19 virus from spreading, delivery and motorcycle for hire riders became frontliners who helped everyone get their daily supplies and bring doctors, nurses, and other workers to their destinations.

Chia started her career as a rider with a well-known motorcycle for hire company. She eventually branched out to parcel deliveries during the lockdown.

She admitted that it’s not an easy job, especially for female riders like her.

There’s also no shortage of people who questioned her ability to ride just because of her gender. “Wala sa kasarian ‘yan,” Chia would tell them.

May mga good feedback din naman akong naririnig, which is masarap sa puso,” she shared. She would often receive tips for her smooth driving, plus positive reviews for her prompt deliveries.

When it comes to the money she earns, she said it all depends on how diligent you are as a rider. “Kadalasan, swerte na ‘yung above minimum,” she shared.

She has had all sorts of experiences as a rider, from delivering huge Christmas trees, to cancelled rides and irate passengers.

Chia said it’s important to always choose to do good, be good, and have a lot of patience. “At masaya ka sa ginagawa mo,” she said.
