The next time you need to step outside to grab your essentials, don't forget to wear a mask. Residents in areas under Luzon-wide enhanced community quarantine are now required by the government to wear face masks in public to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
This policy was adopted by the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) and announced by spokesman Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles in a virtual press briefing.
In the briefing, the secretary noted that residents may wear any kind of mask to follow the order, including improvised ones. "Earloop masks, indigenous, reusable, or do-it-yourself masks, face shields, handkerchiefs, or such other protective equipment that can effectively lessen the transmission of COVID-19 whenever allowed to go out of their residences pursuant to existing guidelines issued by the national government," he stated.
To ensure compliance, the spokesman then called on concerned local government units "to issue the necessary or ordinance to that effect and impose such penalties as may be appropriate."
