Vice Ganda continues to be a mainstay in the annual Metro Manila Film Festival. And with her latest offering Partners in Crime, the actress is ready to clear up some assumptions before it hits theaters.
Following the release of the teaser trailer of the upcoming comedy co-starring Ivana Alawi, the It’s Showtime host responded to a netizen who pointed out Ivana’s character sporting a curly 'do, saying that she hopes this won’t result in her hair eventually being straightened after a makeover.

“Pag 'eto nagka-makeover 'tas naging straight 'yung buhok…” The netizen wrote. “[Nagsta-start] pa lang ako makakita ng maraming tao na ina-accept 'yung curly hair nila, step backwards na naman po ata ang magaganap.”
Vice responded by saying that a person has a choice in the matter. “Anung mali pag ginusto at pinili ng isang taong kulot ang buhok na ipaunat ang buhok nya?” She replied. “Walang mali sa kulot. At wala ring mali kung gusto nyang ipaunat ito.”

In another tweet, a different commenter expressed her worries as a curly-haired morena on the appearance and treatment of Ivana’s character, which could potentially be deemed offensive. The 46-year-old comedienne assured her, saying, “Makakaasa kang walang ganun.”

Another Twitter user also shared their thoughts on the subject, citing the commonplace movie makeover trope where a character’s hair is straightened and their skin lightened to make them appear “more beautiful.” In response, Vice said that it was too early to jump to conclusions.
“Have [you] watched the film yet?” She said, “Girl, 4 sequences pa lang nashu-shoot namin. Don’t stress [yourself].”
Partners in Crime, slated for an MMFF release on Christmas Day, is helmed by director Cathy Garcia-Molina. Check out the teaser below and see for yourself!
