The backlash stemmed from a "Memerimar" skit that featured Vice and Baby Dolls member Johaira Moris. In the scene, Vice takes a drink of water and accidentally spits it out onto the dancer and rising P-pop singer’s face as part of the act. Vice then jokes, "Anong nangyari sa 'yo? Ba't nagputik ka?"

The remark sparked immediate disapproval from online users as it went viral on social media. One X user wrote, “Maybe I'm too woke pero yung mga jokes ni meme vice about johaira and her skin color are not funny at all.” Now with over 16,000 likes, the post has opened up a discussion about how jokes shouldn’t be made at the cost of another person’s dignity.

Another commenter pointed out how this kind of slapstick humor has been normalized on Philippine TV, bringing up a similar incident between Vic Sotto and Ryzza Mae Dizon. "The problem is the culture, and the networks, shows and hosts that continue to think this is entertainment,'" lamented the netizen.

Vice addressed the controversy herself before closing out the July 25, 2026 episode of It’s Showtime. She acknowledged the criticism the show received from the public and reassured viewers that they never intended on upsetting or bringing unhappiness to their audience. She then apologized and made a promise to do better for fans of the variety show moving forward.

Nakarating po sa aming kaalaman na may mga madlang people na hindi nagustuhan o na-offend sa ilan sa aming mga jokes or biruan dito sa Showtime, pati na rin sa mga ginagawa namin sa Memerimar. They found the jokes offensive or insensitive. Gusto lang namin ipaalam po sa inyo na the last thing we want is to displease you o hindi mapasaya ang aming madlang people,” said Vice. “Kaya naman ina-acknowledge po namin ang inyong sentimyento at humihingi po kami ng paumanhin sa inyo. And we will try to do better. Maraming, maraming salamat po.
