And just like that, Valentine’s day is only a few days away. Though love is immaterial at its core, you can’t deny that the occasion feels all the more special when celebrated in the company of good food in a grand setting—that is, by treating yourself and/or your S.O. to a special meal at a restaurant! With that, a number of Manila’s best establishments have come up with multi-course set menus especially made for Valentine’s season, showcasing excellent cooking techniques as applied to quality ingredients. Should you decide to head out, be sure to mask up and be mindful of these restaurants’ safety protocols!
These are the restaurants to hit up and set menus to try for Valentine's Day this 2022:
Over at Metronome, Robuchon-trained Chef Miko Calo and the culinary team give classic French fare subtle modern touches. For Valentine’s they’ve got a special set menu (P7,500/head) available for lunch on February 11 and 12, and for dinner on February 11, 12, and 14. Among the standout courses are the Lobster paired with a saffron risotto, and the Perdreau (young partridge) with butter-roasted perdreau breast and leg confit. In place of the partridge course you can also go for the Okan Wagyu, famed for its full-bodied flavor and especially buttery mouthfeel.

How’s about sharing sweet nothings with your S.O. over fine Japanese fare? Kazunori is hailed for their use of superb-quality ingredients from the Land of the Rising Sun, and they’ve got a Valentine's Day Omakase (P4,500/head) available from February 14 to 21. Highlights include a course of naturally sweet and succulent Japanese king crabs paired with abalone and botan ebi; and a plate of hotate (scallop), salmon, and sawara sashimi in a bright yuzu sauce, presented in a smoke-filled glass. Sweet endings, too, are included—in the form of a Chocolate Mousse Cake and macaroons in a box.
3. Elbert’s Steak Room
You can’t beat steak on V-day—some say it’s an aphrodisiac, and really, who can say no to a good hunk of meat, especially when it’s of topnotch quality and cooked to a perfect medium-rare (or however you prefer it)? Elbert’s Steak Room is established for their superb steak game, and for Valentine’s they’re letting you dig into some of the best beef around. They’ve got two menu options for a grand dinner on February 14: the Steak for One (P4,800) with your choice of Double Gold Filet Mignon or Double Gold Striploin paired with a sauce of chanterelle mushrooms and foie gras; and the Steak for Two (P8,800) featuring Prime Grade Tomahawk. Both sets also include courses of Oyster Rockefeller, Seared Foie Gras, and Cream of Roasted Garlic and Saffron; plus a Raspberry and Chocolate Hazelnut Layered Mousse Cake for dessert paired with coffee or tea. You can also opt to add P1,500 for the wine pairing option.

It’s all about brasserie classics at Sagana, with Chef Marc Aubry employing traditional French techniques onto imported and local ingredients. Their Valentine’s dinner menu (P1,950/head) features courses of salad (choose from the Marinated Salmon Gravlax or Arugula, Parma Ham, and Goat Cheese), soup (Spicy Mediterranean Fish Soup), a main (Roasted Jumbo Prawn or Grilled Kurobuta Tenderloin), and dessert (Apple & Raisin Strudel), as well as coffee or tea to round out the meal.

At Lampara, you can expect to see Filipino food in a contemporary light without having them lose their soul. Their Valentine’s Menu (P2,800/head) is available from the 13th to the 14th, featuring the best of Filipino flavors: think Diwal (angel-wing clams) with quail eggs plus chili and calamansi for piquancy; and Beef Belly made savory-sweet thanks to tapuey (Filipino rice wine) and muscovado sugar. You can also take your pick between Skuttlebutt Rose or Hendrick’s Tonic for drinks.

6. 22 Prime
For a classic V-Day steak dinner with the works, Discovery Suites’ resident steakhouse 22 Prime has got your back. Available from 6 to 9 p.m. from February 12 to 15, their 22 Prime Valentine’s Dinner includes five courses that include oysters, salmon, and the star of the show—Sous Vide SRF Wagyu Hanging Tender. Rates start at P6,000 for two people, but you can also opt to add P1,500 per person for wine or P1,800 for a bouquet of fresh flowers. Really wanna take things to the level? Go and book their seats located by the window (P8,500/good for two, inclusive of a bottle of wine and a rose) and dine with a view of the Manila skyline to boot.

7. La Spezia
It’s all about earthy, aromatic black truffles for Valentine’s day at La Spezia, as the Italian establishment will have a 7-Course Fresh Italian Black Truffle Menu (P12,000/two people) available on February 14. Featured are star courses like the Cannelloni with truffle and spinach; the Lobster that pairs the prized shellfish with chestnuts; and the Rabbit with 70-day French rabbit, veal sweetbreads, and a foie terrine. You can also opt to have your meal with special craft cocktails by Some.Young for an additional P1,800.
8. Dr. Wine
Makati spot Dr. Wine is famed for their wine selection but with Chef Alain Raye at the helm of their kitchen, their food is also rightfuly superb. Try the best of their French bistro fare with the Valentine’s 5-Course Menu (P3,200/person), available from February 13 to 14 and includes courses like the Beef Short Ribs with Green Peas, Fava Beans and Smoked Marrow and the Orange Scented Prawn and Tuna. Of course, your best bet when at Dr. Wine is to go for their wine-pairing option (P700); you can also add a bottle of Nicolas Feuillate Brut champagne for P3,990.

How’s about going Spanish for a change this Valentine’s? Manduca’s Valentine’s Degustacion Menu (P1,990/person) delivers real spunky flavors across six special courses—standouts among which are a truffle-seasoned Scallop Salad, the Atlantic Bacalao with a cod confit, and the Txuleton or Australian ribeye with confit potato and piquillo peppers. And for a real flavor fest, you can opt to add on a bottle of Bellino Prosecco for P920. This is available from February 11 to 14.

Really looking to impress? South-of-Manila fine-dining establishment Caviar is the place to go as their Valentine’s Dinner 9-Course Set Menu (P8,888/two people) is real topnotch stuff. Just some of the specialty ingredients it features are foie gras, quail, truffle, French cheese, Japanese wagyu, and of course, caviar. Note that as of writing the restaurant is fully booked for February 14, but you can still place reservations for February 12 and 13, 6 p.m. onwards.
