"This style was made with the consideration of our women doctors and health workers so that they can go to the bathroom easily!"

Mich Dulce and team members of The Manila Protective Gear Sewing Club have come up with a design for two-piece personal protective equipment specifically designed for female health workers.

"This style was made with the consideration of our women doctors and health workers so that they can go to the bathroom easily (a one-piece suit would make it difficult!). BUT it can also be used by men," wrote Mich in a Facebook post on Wednesday. "We encourage men's PPE to still be in the jumpsuit because the fabric consumption is smaller than the two-piece suit. But we need to make this pattern for all our ladies."

According to her, the recommended material for this suit is still Taffeta SBL, but for non-critical frontliners, any water repellant fabric will do.

The pattern, test garment, and technical specifications were prepared by Candy Maristela, a faculty member of the University of the Philippines College of Home Economics Department of Clothing, Textiles and Interior Design (CTID). Meanwhile, the pattern digitizing and printing to scale were done by AJ Dimarucot, a graphic designer, illustrator, and art director.

Mich has assembled a committed team comprised of researchers and producers in the fashion industry, formed to voluntarily supply frontliners with PPE. The team also developed the first medically-reviewed open source design.

Her group's PPE designs have also been playfully made with leopard and tropical print fabric!
