Baby, as I look into your eyes. Oh, you're perfect… With a smooth, breezy pop formula and abundance of superb melody and vocal harmony, the 1990s were an era of statement-making music that shook the core and revived Philippine popular music.
“When ‘Perfect’ came out the DJs did not tell the people that it was a local band. Everybody was thinking that this is a foreign band. It sounded foreign, sounded new, so people were debating whether it was local or it was foreign,” Eugene Marfil, guitarist of True Faith, stated.
True Faith is a Filipino band that was created in 1991. They shot to fame in 1993 after releasing a demo tape of their song "Perfect," a love ballad with wistful vocals.
“First time I heard it I was like, wow! That sounds heavenly, that sounds really nice. Naisip ko lang talaga, it was instant, it was like serendipity. Talagang I just thought of the line ‘you are perfect,’” True Faith lead vocalist Meds Marfil said.
The group established themselves as one of the most well-known and competent bands in the Philippines. The accessibility of "Perfect" opened the doors to a far bigger audience than the cult of fans who flocked to small bars to see them play new wave versions.
Meds and Eugene Marfil, brothers-turned-bandmates, take a seat and discuss the song that catapulted them to fame in this OG video exclusive.
