Could we be getting a clash of Spideys for Spider-Man 3? Rumors of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield reprising their roles for the Marvel franchise now led by Tom Holland have been circulating the internet for the past few weeks—and we're all for it!
The hearsays started after The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Jamie Foxx is now in final talks to appear on the third Spider-Man installment. On that regard, he’s reportedly returning as Electro, the villain to Andrew Garfield’s version of the superhero on The Amazing Spider-Man 2 last 2014.
Fans have since theorized about a live-action Spiderverse of sorts in the works to come into play during Spider-Man 3. Recently though, news sites Fandomwire and Hypebeast supposedly confirmed the suspicions just yesterday, throwing Marvel enthusiasts into a frenzy.
Andy Signore, blogger and head of entertainment website Popcorned Planet, apparently heard of the news from an inside source in Sony. Though the plot details aren’t clear, he mentioned that both actors have already signed on for the movie, and that Doctor Strange will be lending a hand in getting the three Spider-Mans together.
“Both Maguire and Garfield will appear in Tom Holland’s universe during the final act to help defeat all of the Spider-Men’s combined foes,” he wrote on Fandomwire. “This will not just be a post-credits cameo scene. It sounds more like an Endgame reveal with Tom Holland’s Peter Parker facing many Spider-Man villains from across Sony’s Spider-Man movies, along with some new ones. Maguire’s Spider-Man and Garfield’s Spider-Man will join Holland’s universe to help him defeat them.”
Exciting as it may all sound, we can’t count on anything just yet until it’s official confirmed by Marvel and Sony. But you can bet, just like every fangirl and fanboy out there, that we’re definitely keeping our fingers crossed for this epic crossover to actually take fruit on the big screen.
