ICYMI, after rumors started circulating last April, Son Ye Jin finally confirmed her involvement in the JTBC drama Thirty-Nine come the end of June. Slated to be her next series after the phenomenal hit that was Crash Landing on You, expectations are running high for the show, along with who her co-stars will be. Luckily, we finally have deets on the latter as the drama’s production moves further along.

The Plot
This slice-of-life drama centers on a trio of best friends who meet in their second year of high school. As they grow into their late 30s together, they must weather through life’s challenges before reaching 40. According to previous reports, Thirty-Nine will run for a total of 12 episodes.
The Cast
Ye Jin will portray Cha Mi-jo, a successful and well-off dermatologist who heads a clinic in Gangnam. Her character is said to have grown up in a charmed household, coddled by her caring father, generous mother, and her supportive older sister.
Hospital Playlist star Jeon Mi Do was also recently confirmed for the show's main cast. She'll be taking on the role of the brutally frank Jung Chan-young. After failing to achieve her dream of becoming an actress, the 39-year-old settles for teaching the craft instead.
Rounding up the show’s main trio is Kim Ji Hyun, who’s best known in South Korea as a theater actress. That said, she’s had her fair share of TV roles before, including playing minor characters on known titles like Backstreet Rookie, Romance is a Bonus Book, Prison Playbook, and The Smile Has Left Your Eyes.
Thirty-Nine marks Ji Hyun’s first time top-billing a K-drama. She’s set to play Jang Joo-hee, a timid cosmetics manager at a department store, who’s never been in a proper romantic relationship.
The Crew
Helming the drama is Run On co-director Kim Sang Ho. He’ll be joined by screenwriter Yoo Young Ah, best known for her work on Encounter, and the multi-award winning film Kim Ji Young: Born 1982.
The Release Date
Thirty-Nine is scheduled to start production in the latter half of 2021, with a release date slated for early 2022.
