The Queen's Gambit proved to be a massive success for Netflix. It set a record in the streaming platform's history with 62 million households watching the series in its first 28 days. It ranked #1 among their trending titles in 63 countries. The novel of the same name also became a New York Times bestseller 37 years after its initial release.

Naturally, the question on everyone's minds now is if the popular series will be followed up by a Season 2. Other Netflix series that were well-received by viewers (The Umbrella Academy and Emily in Paris, to name a few) were given their respective season renewals. But will The Queen's Gambit receive a similar fate? While there's no official news about it yet, here's what the cast thinks:

In an interview with Town & Country, both Anya Taylor-Joy (Beth Harmon) and Harry Melling (Harry Beltik) have said that they're always up for it if ever the creators of the show decide to invite them back for a Season 2. "I adore the character, and I would certainly come back if I was asked to," Taylor-Joy says. Melling also thinks it would be a good idea: "It'd be good, right, a Queen's Gambit part two?"

On the other hand, co-star Thomas Brodie-Sangster (Benny Watts) personally does not see a part two happening. "We live in an era when people are just obsessed with prequels and sequels, and repeating ideas that work just to make more money. But it's not always about that, because you can lose track of that lovely narrative structure," he shares with Augustman.

It's also good to note that Netflix put out an order for The Queen's Gambit as a limited series and that, according to Melling, the show ends where the book does, too. Regardless of whether a Season 2 is plausible, Taylor-Joy thinks that the show's ending was already "a good place" for Beth's story to conclude. Executive producer William Horberg shares the same sentiment, saying, "I'm not sure if we want to go on and answer that question. Maybe we can just let the audience imagine what comes next."

While it looks like there isn't going to be one anytime soon, nothing's set in stone. Who knows? They might just decide to make one or even try doing a spinoff instead. Are you hoping for a Season 2? Share your thoughts!
