ICYMI, Tourism Philippines kickstarted a campaign last June with the tagline, “The People Make the Destination,” and the accompanying video was absolutely brilliant!
A tourism ad is usually characterized by scenic clips of the places it’s promoting, often boasting of a locale’s breathtaking landscapes and unique attractions. The video by Tourism Philippines, however, went against the grain and shelved the typical drone shots in favor of showcasing the true backbone of the industry: its people.
The almost two-minute ad, which was shot entirely in a studio, featured a group of masked individuals clad in painted bodysuits that make up the image of a Philippine destination when put together.
“For years, we have shone the spotlight on the country’s stunning beaches and landscapes, its marvelous heritage sites and natural attractions. As tourism begins to pick up anew, we recognize the people who have always made our destinations more memorable and more fun—our tourism workers,” explained Tourism Philippines on social media.
Their description further revealed that all the sounds used for the campaign were taken from actual places around the country, “from crashing waves in Samar to mountain hikes in the Cordilleras, T’boli instruments from South Cotabato and the drumming of Dakila Garcia, La Union’s best percussionist.”
