If we’re going by the designer wardrobe alone, it’s safe to say that K-dramas and fashion are almost always intrinsically linked. As style and K-culture enthusiasts, you can count us in with the folks clamoring for more series centering around the fashion industry—think along the lines of Emily in Paris or The Devil Wears Prada, but set in Seoul!
Fortunately, Netflix might have just the solution. Teased during this year’s TUDUM, the streaming site’s upcoming 2022 slate includes The Fabulous, a drama with the fashion biz’s inner workings as its backdrop. Sounds like something that’s up your alley? Scroll on to know more.
Here’s everything you need to know about Netflix K-drama “The Fabulous”:
The Plot
Dubbed a “hyperrealism romance,” the series delves into freelance photo editor Ji Woo-min (Choi Min Ho), the resident good-looking lad behind the industry’s scenes, but who really isn’t as passionate as the rest of them.
On the other side of the spectrum is Pyo Ji-eun (Chae Soo Bin), a young woman who has dreamed of entering the fashion field since she was a kid. Fast-forward a couple of years, she’s now the section chief of a luxury brand’s PR team. But not everything is as glamorous as she expected it to be, as she balances the demanding job and a romantic dilemma when Woo-min enters the picture.
The Cast
Playing the male lead is none other than SHINee’s Choi Min Ho, who again, proves that he’s a multi-faceted performer. The rapper-slash-singer is also a diverse actor with several titles in his filmography credits, including Yumi’s Cells, Lovestruck in the City, 18 Again, and Hwarang.
His female counterpart will be played by actress Chae Soo Bin, who you may have spotted in dramas like I’m Not a Robot, Strongest Deliveryman, and Rookie Cops. She has also bagged several awards for her performances in Where Stars Land, The Rebel, House of Bluebird, and Cheer Up!
Alongside them are actors Lee Sang Woon (The Good Detective, Grease), who’ll play fashion designer Joseph, and Park Hee Jung, acting newcomer and real-life top model who’ll portray the fictional supermodel Ye Seon-ho.
The Crew
Filmmaker Kim Jeong Hyeon will helm the series as its main director, who has also lent his brain to dramas like Hotel Del Luna, Legal High, A Korean Odyssey, and K-series classic Secret Garden. Penning the series’ episodes is Kim Ji Hee, whose work includes the 2013 film Where Are To Go?.
