Sony Music Philippines just launched five fresh and promising artists under their roster who are set to soon take over Manila's airwaves. Okay, so maybe award-winning band Ben&Ben isn't exactly "new." You'd have to be living under a rock to not know any of their music. But the nine-piece indie folk group is turning a new leaf and joining the international record label to help further cement their hold in the Philippine music industry and beyond.
Joining the Kathang Isip singers are an eclectix mix of soloists and bands who came to impress at the Sony Music Mediacon last Wednesday, July 24. There's Syd Hartha, a 17-year-old folk singer-songwriter, whose latest single Ayaw speaks up against sexual harassment and highlights the value of consent. Alex Bruce, 12, a youthful hip-hop prodigy with the disarming charm and swagger of a pro rapper. Nathan and Mercury, a four-piece band with soulful killer vocals, whose sound includes a refreshing mix of pop, r&B, gospel, soul, blues, and jazz. The band has notably opened for international music stars such as Honne, Clairo, The Kooks, and Two Door Cinema Club. And the vowels they orbit, an alt-rock outfit already charting early on in their career with their song Selos, which peaked at number two on Spotify Philippines' Viral 50.
