Ever since Sofia Andres publicly introduced her daughter Zoe last June, fans have been supportive of her little family. Sofia has been sharing snippets of her life as a new parent, including many of their mother-daughter OOTDs! Although she did reveal what her pregnancy journey was like in Australia, she hasn’t shared much about what parenthood is like now that she’s back in the Philippines. Until now.
Sofia and her boyfriend Daniel Miranda posted their first vlog to talk about their new lives as parents. Sofia’s YouTube channel has been renamed to “Daniel and Sofia,” meaning they’ll be posting more videos in the future.
Below, we’ve rounded up the new things we’ve learned about them and their parenthood journey:
Nothing compares to the moment Sofia gave birth.
For those of us who aren’t mothers, it’s difficult to fathom the painful yet joyous experience of childbirth, but Sofia summed it up: “Feeling ko yun yung pinakamasakit na naramdaman ko in my whole life, pero it was worth it naman.” As for Daniel, he shared how unforgettable watching Sofia give birth was: “The scariest moment for me was when I saw the head come out."
“Honestly gusto niya ako iwan sa room,” Sofia elaborates. Daniel explained, “Ang alam namin kasi when the doctor comes in we have to go out, pero ayan we can just be there and watch so it was really something I’ll never forget and I’ll really [cherish] for the rest of my life.”
She worked out a lot to stay fit post-pregnancy.
It never occurred to us how svelte Sofia is given the fact that she had given birth just months ago. One fan asked how she was able to achieve her fit body, to which Sofia answered, “Luckily hindi ako ganun nag-gain ng weight. Maliit lang kasi si Zoe eh. [Also,] I was just walking around Australia. Wala kaming car. Feel ko nakatulong siya. Nag-effort talaga ako—spinning, cycling, yoga, running. It paid off.” Her ultimate secret? “It’s actually about being consistent.”
Sofia now realizes why her parents had been strict with her.
“Ngayon ko lang na-realize na yung parents ko dati strict. Bawal ganito ganyan,” she said when asked the question about baby Zoe breaking hearts when she’s older. Sofia says that she realized why her parents had been strict with her now that she has her own daughter.
“Ngayon ko lang naintindihan when I see my daughter na ‘Bawal ka lumabas ng house.’ Ngayon ko lang naintindihan na bawal siya mag-cellphone. Bawal siyang may ka-text.” Perhaps it’s the protective feeling of being a mother.
Sofia was the one who chose Zoe’s name.
You have to admit how adorable the name Zoe is. It has a nice ring to it, and Sofia thought so, too. In the video, she shared that Zoe had always been her dream name for herself: “Kasi dream kong name yung Zoe. It’s very cute so binigay ko sa kanya then I also searched the meaning of it. It means life. She’s my life. She’s my inspiration.”
The nervousness they felt when Sofia had discovered she was pregnant was replaced by love and support.
They revealed that Daniel was in Malaysia for his first car race when Sofia found out she was pregnant. “I really waited for him to finish his race. Nung time na nalaman ko [that I was pregnant], I really had to wait for days. And for me, it was really hard because I couldn't tell anyone.
“[I was at dinner with] my mom and my two aunties. Sofia called me, ‘Daniel, Daniel come home. Come to your hotel I have something to tell you.’ So I got really paranoid. I got scared. I took a Grab back to my hotel then Sofia called me right away and said, ‘I’m pregnant.’ So I was completely in shock. I didn't know how to tell my parents because they’re strict as well,” Daniel shared.
Sofia also shared the many thoughts that entered her head upon discovering she was pregnant: “Medyo nakakatakot. I didn’t cry, honestly. I was more excited. I don’t know if God really prepared me for this. I don’t know, I didn’t really cry… medyo na-stress lang ako ‘cause of my parents, kung anong mangyayari sa trabaho, and pananagutan ba ni Daniel?"
"But I’m very lucky kasi tinanggap niya ako nang buo and tinanggap ng family namin. Masaya yung pakiramdam," she said.
Daniel echoed her sentiments, “To be a father at such a young age, it’s very pressuring ‘cuz I don’t just have to watch over Sofia, but I have to watch over Zoe as well. But I'm really thankful that my family—my dad and my mom’s side—are very supportive. Throughout this whole [journey] they've been there for me.”
Sofia’s life as a mom is different.
Sofia shared that her life has changed but is overflowing with love and simple joys. ‘Yung pagmamahal iba eh parang unconditional. I don't know, I can't explain. It’s a small thing but when she stares at me, iba yung pakiramdam alam ko yung mga mom ngayon na ka edad ko or di ko ka edad, alam nila yung feeling na yun. I’m so proud of you guys and I’m so proud of myself na I made her and I’ll be forever happy being a mom.”
