This just in: Siargao was voted as the best island in the world! The verdict was made by readers of international luxury magazine Conde Nast Traveler, who also naturally deemed the destination as the best island in Asia. With over 429,000 voters weighing in on the decision for the magazine's 2018 Readers' Choice Awards, it's hard to contest Siargao's impressive new title.
Our tiny tear-shaped island won over 29 others around the world, including the dramatic peaks of Bora Bora in French Polynesia, the Seven Mile Beach in Cayman Islands, and the multiple blue stunning waters of Greece. Not only this, to add to our streak of Pinoy Pride, Boracay, and Palawan were also voted as the second and third best islands in Asia, respectively just after Siargao!
To celebrate the winning spot, Conde Naste Traveler published an all you need-to-know feature and guide to all things Siargao, just a few days ago. They even compared the Philippines' pristine and quaint treasure to Bali, gushing about its surf breaks and virgin white sand beaches.
"Given its smaller size (a population of 200,000, compared to Bali’s four million), Siargao has remained unspoiled, remote, and still relatively under the radar, despite the influx of new infrastructures in recent years. You’ll likely fall for the island’s pristine white beaches, coconut woodlands, and emerald mangrove forest as soon as you land, as well as the clearest water you’ve ever seen and sensational waves," the publication writes.
