Hot on the heels of a K-drama filmed in the Philippines, a Hollywood movie has set the scene in our local shores as well—starring no less than Jennifer Lopez!
The 53-year-old A-lister takes on the romantic comedy genre once again in Shotgun Wedding, where she plays the soon-to-be-wedded Darcy Rivera. Alongside her on-screen fiancé Tom (played by Josh Duhamel), the two set their sights on a destination wedding in the fictional Mahal Island Resort in the Philippines.
However, not all goes according to plan, with pre-wedding jitters crashing down just as they're gathering their opinionated relatives halfway across the globe. What’s worse, havoc soon wrecks their dreamy location when a group of pirates invades their nuptials. Cue the action scenes!
Despite the Philippines being the wedding’s location in-universe, Shotgun Wedding’s island scenes were actually shot across different locations in the Dominican Republic due to travel restrictions. For its resort shots, the film is backdropped by Àni Dominican Republic, a luxury resort located in Rio San Juan.
Many of the film’s beach scenes were also shot at the Playa Grande, with landscape shots featuring the coasts of Juan Dolio, Sanchez, Samana, and Cabrera.
Aside from J. Lo and Josh Duhamel, the film also comes with a packed cast, such as Lenny Kravitz and Jennifer Coolidge. Expect Fil-Am actors to make some appearances too, including 13 Reasons Why’s Ray Raymundo.
