After drawing interest for their Crash Landing on You-inspired prenup photoshoot, Police Lieutenant Jay Abdurajak and Congresswoman Princess Bai Rihan Mangudadatu Sakaluran have once again captured the attention of netizens. The viral post, care of Congresswoman Rihan—who also happens to be a Tausug princess from Sultan Kudarat—showcased the pair’s gorgeous engagement ceremony.
Mixing the cultures of Maguindanao and Tausug, Jay and Rihan proudly donned their traditional garb as they executed the Salangguni. The ceremony acts as a formal occasion for when the man asks for the blessing of the woman’s parents, accompanied by a dowry offering from his family. It took place in Lutayan town, Sultan Kudarat last September 3, 2020.
In an interview with Manila Bulletin, Rihan revealed that the original plan was to celebrate their engagement on June 28 with an expected 1000 guests. However, due to COVID-19, the couple opted to move the event and keep their attendees to a maximum of 100. “We planned for a small ceremony for our family. The planning took us only one month because madalian lahat (everything was rushed),” Rihan told MB’s lifestyle section.
That said, with a blend of elegance, luxury, and deep-seated tradition, the couple’s engagement photos truly looked nothing short of a fairytale despite the restrictions they had to face. “Thank you so much po to everyone [for] all your warm wishes and congratulatory messages,” Rihan wrote on her Facebook post.
