4. He had to learn horseback riding for “Extraordinary You”
Rowoon went the extra mile for his character on Extraordinary You by taking up not just one, but four new skills. The dedicated actor expressed on multiple occasions that his preparation for the role was indeed challenging, but not something impossible.
“One of the hardest parts was that Ha-ru is a character who hoards all his feelings,” Rowoon shared in an interview with Soompi. “That’s why I tried to act genuinely every time. For example, throughout episode 15, he only wears the same pair of shoes, and those shoes are the ones he was wearing when Dan-oh gave Ha-ru his name. I tried not to miss any of these details that created Ha-ru. By learning swimming, tennis, horseback riding, and fencing, I worked hard to perfect Ha-ru’s character.”
5. He went to an all-boys high school
With his swoon-worthy looks, we might’ve expected Rowoon to be slick when it comes to dating, but the opposite is actually true. The idol-actor confessed in an interview that he has a hard time approaching the people he likes.
In fact, he struggled with playing Go Eun-seob in Where Stars Land because he thought his lack of dating experience would affect his acting. He explained, “I was a trainee from an early age, and I went to an all-boys middle school and an all-boys high school. I was just a kid who liked soccer and karaoke. That’s why I didn’t have a chance [to date], but I’m slowly trying to learn more [about romance].”
6. He just started painting
It seems Rowoon’s eagerness to acquire new skills knows no limits. In an interview with Esquire Korea last year, the actor revealed that he’s started trying his hand at painting, believing it will be a great way to commemorate his life experiences. “I’m giving [painting] a try. I once made a painting after I had a drink and it was very honest. It showed my status at that time,” he shared. “So if I keep drawing them and if I see them when I get old, I would be able to feel that, 'Ah I drew this because I was thinking about this.' I think that would be interesting. So I am giving it a try.”
7. He doesn’t like planning trips
Rowoon sat down with Cosmopolitan Korea last year to dish about his growth as an actor, especially during the pandemic. In the interview, he admitted that he’s definitely not the planning type when it comes to trips. “There’s the excitement that comes from not having a plan,” Rowoon reasoned, “I’m also not someone who feels elated when my plans go exactly as anticipated. Whenever you actually go, nothing ever goes according to plan anyway.” Who knew he had such a spontaneous spirit?
