There are many reasons for politicians, given the nature of their work, to be the talk of the town—or the world, for that matter. Recently, Rob Jetten has been making waves online for being the projected winner of the Dutch elections. He leads the liberal-progressive Democrats 66 or D66 Party, which went neck-and-neck against Geert Wilders’ far-right Party for Freedom.
However, conversations surrounding the public servant are not only anchored on the projected results, with the democrats ahead by a narrow margin. Once declared, Rob will officially become not only the youngest Prime Minister of the European country, and also the first openly gay one.

He is 38 years old.
Rob was born on the 25th of March 1987, making him 38 years old as of writing. For astrology lovers, this makes him an Aries, a sign known to be natural and ambitious trailblazers.
He has more than 15 years of political experience.
While it has only been around two years since Rob became the leader of the D66 Party—extraordinarily bringing the team to the top of Dutch politics in a short period of time—he has been in the game for much longer.
In 2008, when he was 21 years old, he began his foray as the president of the Young Democrats. This was followed by his service as a member of the Nijmegen Municipal Council in 2010, until he moved on to be part of the House of Representatives from 2017 to 2023. He has briefly experienced being Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Climate and Energy Policy, as well, in 2024.
He is engaged to an Argentine Olympian.
Lucky in love, Rob announced his engagement last year to Nicolás Keenan, an Argentine field hockey player and two-time Olympian. On election night, the 28-year-old professional athlete posted a TikTok with his fiancé, which had netizens gushing!
He has always been outspoken about homophobia.
Being in the public eye, Rob is no stranger to unsolicited negative comments. The BBC reported that, five years ago, he posted a video of himself reading a long list of homophobic messages straight from his phone. The video was created to affirm his stand on the importance of having an international day against homophobia.
He is the Netherlands' first openly gay prime minister.
Before the declaration, Rob already celebrated his win through a post on X due to the vote analysis that deemed him and his team victorious. He wrote, “Thank you for all your trust. We are the largest party in the Netherlands!” In the same post, he highlighted that they will now finally be able “to work for all Dutch people.”
