Celebrities, they’re just like us? Rica Peralejo begs to differ. In a post on Threads, the fitness influencer reminded women not to pressure themselves to look like the artistas we see on TV or online. Her post was a response to the real-life experience of a netizen whose officemate called her “haggard” and compared her to the likes of celebrity moms like Anne Curtis and Solenn Heussaff who still looked “fresh” after giving birth.

In support of the user, Rica emphasized that raising children is no walk in the park. With the added fact that celebrities tend to have more resources than the average working woman, it's simply impossible and unfair to compare our lives to theirs. “Even with time, we cannot get to the levels of these celebs cause we won’t ever make that much which affords them to sleep thru what we cannot sleep thru, to not wash dishes, to eat always fresh, organic and lean, & the list goes on,” wrote Rica.

Rica Peralejo on Why Women Shouldn’t Compare Themselves to Celebrities
Rica doubled down on her next Threads post, stating that women should give ourselves the grace to be more realistic in our expectations so we don’t suffer from “false comparisons.” According to the mom of two, the personalities we look up to and want to emulate don’t just rely on skin clinics to look perfect, they often have a leg up on the everyday realities we have to face by ourselves.

“Para maging Heart E levels ang ganda natin is not only to Aivee ha. It is also those little unseen things. Yung hindi sya napupuyat kakaalaga ng anak, hindi sya nagluluto, di naghuhugas ng pinggan, hindi sya nagbubuhat ng mga bagahe, hindi natutulog sa substandard materials or places. In short: HINDI SYA NAHIHIRAPAN like most of us,” wrote Rica. “This is not a critique of Heart or celebs kasi work nila yan, na maging maganda. Pero dapat ilugar natin sa realidad natin so we don’t suffer from false comparisons.”
Rica further reminded her followers that not all of us have the means to hire help that will make life a “breeze.” She continued, “Wag sana nating hingin sa mga sarili natin to be like them when we really do not have the same realities. They do this as a part of their job and because they can afford it, and we don’t. That doesn’t make us less. But it sure helps to be real.”
Rica has recognized in the past that celebs don’t have it exactly easy either. In 2021, she opened up about the toxic beauty standards placed on them and how this gravely affected her perception of herself as a former actress. Read more about it here.
