As if we couldn't love Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha even more, here's Yoon Hye-jin (Shin Min Ah) showing us more reasons to do so. In the final episode of the K-drama, Hye-jin took matters of the heart into her own hands and proposed to Chief Hong (Kim Seon Ho). She defied the tradition of waiting for the guy to pop the question, and of course, Ms. Dentist did so romantically and stylishly!
Hye-jin even offered Du-sik a new pair of designer white leather sneakers to demonstrate her love. "The crashing waves of that day brought us to this moment right here—and just like these shoes came back to me—I'd love it if our shoes were always side by side at the door together. So that neither will be lonely," she said. AWWW!
But her romantic gesture was shot down by Hong banjang...who wanted to propose to her, at that exact moment, too! Despite Hye-jin preempting his plan, Chief Hong swoops in with a touching proposal for the dentist.
Instead of a diamond ring, Du-sik asks for Hye-jin's hand with a necklace. And in case you don't remember, it's the exact one that Hye-jin bought for herself during their shopping date in Seoul!
Unfortunately, Hye-jin felt the need to sell it after Du-sik ran a little cold to her (for a different reason, as we now know). Du-sik isn't a materialistic guy and because of this, Hye-jin thought that Chief Hong would take offense in her spending habits and think less of her. Good thing, Du-sik is also an understanding man; he didn't mind the shopping—he just wanted her to be happy! Hence, Hong banjang proposing to Hye-jin with the exact necklace made the moment a lot sweeter.
Additionally, it's the way that he presented it to her that makes the gift much more meaningful. "I worked 637 hours to get you this necklace," he said, instead of stating the necklace's price. (BTW, we did the math: Chief Hong works for a minimum wage of 8720 won/hour x 637 hours = 5.5 million won...exactly the price she bought it for.)
All in all, the way Chief Hong phrased his words puts more weight in what he values, and what he's willing to give to Hye-jin in their new life: time and effort. So sweet!
