Hear ye, hear ye! Get excited, Y2K kids: the long-awaited Princess Diaries 3 is officially in the works over at Disney. Amidst lega-sequels to other Disney's 2000s hits like EnchantedNational Treasure, and The Santa Clause rolling out on their new streaming service Disney+, the third Princess Diaries film looks to be getting the royal treatment with a theatrical release as full-on as the originals. After almost 20 years away from Genovia, it's only what we deserve, we'd say!

Here's everything we know about Princess Diaries 3:

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that a third Princess Diaries is in the works with Reacher and Supergirl writer Aadrita Mukerji penning the script, The Other Woman writer Melissa Stack executive producing, and original Princess Diaries producer Debra Martin Chase returning to produce the three-quel as well.

However, what we want to know is if Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrews are returning for the most chaotic grandmother-granddaughter duo to grace the Disney channel. As of now, neither Hathaway or Andrews are signed onto the picture, but Hathaway told Entertainment Tonight just last month that she would love to make it work out. Nevertheless, the project is currently understood to be a direct sequel and not a reboot or remake.

The early report of the project also made no mention of the flick being a Disney+ exclusive, as the recent Enchanted legacy sequel Disenchanted is, so there is a good chance we can get hit with all the nostalgia feels in cinemas, i.e. the best place to experience any feeling.

Given that it's still in early development, no release date has been set for the film. However, we could see it dropping as early as 2024. Now we'll just have to wait and see if Chris Pine's Nicholas Deveraux makes a return as king (as if he wasn't one in real life already.)

The first two Princess Diaries movies are streaming on Disney+.
