We're Finally Getting a Pixar Short Film with Filipino-American Characters
We can't wait!

It's finally happening! The first animated Filipino-American Pixar characters are coming to life on our screens at the hand of Fil-Am animator Bobby Rubio

The Pixar animator of 11 years proudly announced the big news on Twitter last January 10, "It's OFFICIAL! I can finally tell you I'm the #Writer / #Director of the #Pixar #SparkShort 'Float'!" Bobby's post reads. "I'm so proud to be a part of this program and to be among these very talented people! And I have to give a shout-out to my wonderful and talented crew, Team Float!"

Float, lead by two Fil-Am CGI characters, is part of Disney Pixar's latest venture called Pixar SparkShorts, a short film program dedicated to unearthing the freshest and most unique ideas of future storytellers through low-budget productions. "I see it as an opportunity to tell my story," Bobby says in a video clip unveiling the program.

While no clear storyline or release date has been announced yet, just the knowledge of a Fil-Am short film under a major production company has already ignited an exciting buzz within the Filipino community.

"I feel represented. Thank you so much this is amazing!" one Twitter user gushes.

We couldn't argee more as Float is already a hopeful leap in the right direction in our fight for Filipino and Asian representation in Hollywood. And with a repertoire of notable projects like Up, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and Inside Out under his belt, we have no doubt that Bobby can deliver a nuanced, and heart-felt story deserving of every Filipino.
