Seven months before Pia Wurtzbach successfully bagged the Miss Universe crown, she posted a tweet that sparked controversy following Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao’s loss to Floyd Mayweather. This bold move elicited strong reactions from the netizens, some praising her for her “confidence” and others criticizing her for her “arrogance.”
But as you all already know, she did well on her promise.
On her first day as the reigning Miss Universe, Pia appeared on several interviews, the first of which was for Good Morning America followed by LIVE! With Kelly and Michael. On both television shows, she handled the questions with grace and addressed the controversies involving Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez.
Her third interview was aired on CNN Tonight With Don Lemon and, as usual, Pia made us proud with her intelligent answers befitting a real beauty queen. On the 5:01 mark, she noted how Filipinos take beauty pageants very seriously and once again brought up the subject about the Filipino boxing champ, Manny Pacquiao. “We take pageants very seriously. It gives people hope. It's like seeing Manny Pacquiao do very well in a boxing match. That's how it feels like for them to see somebody win in an international pageant, especially in Miss Universe," says Pia.
