Pia Wurtzbach was taken aback by a negative comment from a netizen on Instagram. She read it aloud in a vlog for The Queens Youtube channel, which she shares with fellow former beauty queens Bianca Guidotti and Carla Lizardo.
The comment told Pia to stop talking about pageants, and compared her to other queens who have pursued a different career outside pageantry.
They wrote, "Move ka na sa pageant girl! Former beauty barely talks about pageants anymore! They talk and focus now on their new career! Wala ka na bang ibang kayang gawin! PAGEANT LANG? Wake up! @piawurtzbach."
Reacting to the comment, Pia said, "I'm surprised because I haven't been talking about pageants in a while. And I actually haven't been into pageants, we haven't done Queentuhan in a while. I just don't know anymore where these comments are coming from."
Queentuhan is a beauty pageant-themed podcast hosted by Pia, Bianca, and Carla. Their most recent episode was posted in late 2021.
The Miss Universe winner then gave the netizen a quick reality check about "moving on" from pageantry.
"Okay, real talk, you can't completely detach yourself from pageants," she explained. "Especially me, because I came from a beauty pageant and I was Miss Universe so its a big part of my life."
Pia also pointed out the impact a beauty pageant can have on someone's life, which shouldn't be looked down upon.
She said, "I don't agree na pageant lang 'to kasi maraming mga nagbabago ang buhay dahil dito at isa na ako doon. So thank you very much."
Last year, Pia responded to a similar comment from a netizen that gave her unsolicited career advice.
In her reply, the former Miss Universe pointed out that while she's happy for her fellow queens in showbiz, it's no longer her personal goal to make pursue the same thing.
"I'm so happy and grateful for the blessings I have in my life now. I found the perfect balance of doing what I love and being happy in it. I've been in charge of my own career and managing it myself for a while now and I'm very happy with the direction that I’m going. Lahat ng work na ginagawa ko yung gusto ko talaga at naeenjoy ko pa personal life ko. Masaya lang. Kaya wag ka nang magalit," she wrote.
In the end, one cannot simply "move on" from Pia's impact on the Philippines' reputation as a pageantry powerhouse. After all, she was the first Filipino representative to bag the Miss Universe title after 42 years!
Also, despite not being active in showbiz, the Filipino-German beauty's schedule remains packed. She's an active endorser for many brands, runs a food business called Pia's Kitchen, and is an ambassador for the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), UNAIDS, and Love Yourself Philippines. Not to mention, she's always jetting off somewhere exciting with her travel buff fiancé Jeremy Jauncey!
