Straight from New York City, our very own Miss Universe Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach is back in her home country once again just two weeks since her last visit. This time around, however, it’s to personally crown her successor at the Binibining Pilipinas coronation night on Sunday, April 17, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Pia, who bagged the Miss Philippines title in 2015 after three attempts, was emotional as she talked about her reign nearing its end.
“To get to Miss Universe, before I could even go to that level, it took me so long here in Binibining Pilipinas,” she explains. “This is very bittersweet—I think that’s the word—because it took me three years to get it and now it’s finally time to pass it on to the next girl who will be taking on the responsibility of wearing a sash that says Miss Philippines.”

On the other hand, the 26-year-old beauty queen expressed her excitement for the upcoming pageant. “I’m very excited and I hear that production is going to be spectacular this year. All our candidates are stunning, beautiful, smart, and winnable Filipinas,” says Pia.
Being the smart yet humorous queen we know her as, Pia was also able to squeeze in a witty comment in the middle of her speech. “I know that the whole world will be watching because… I mean, we won, right?” she quipped with a smile, pertaining to the country’s recent Miss Universe win.
After which, she made a closing remark, “Once a Binibini, always a Binibini.”
