As of latest count, the Philippines has 7,641 islands spread out in our seas. This means that when there's a contest on the best island, best beaches, or anything ocean-related, we got more than 7,000 entries. So it doesn't come as a surprise that the country bagged the titles for "Asia's Leading Beach Destination" and "Asia's Leading Dive Destination" for the Asia Winners 2020 roster of the 27th World Travel Awards.

In 2019, the Philippines already snatched the title for "World’s Leading Dive Destination" at the 26th World Travel Awards Grand Final Gala Ceremony in Muscat, Oman. After all, our archipelago is located in what's called the "Coral Triangle," which is dubbed by marine experts as the global center of marine biodiversity. We've also been awarded Asia's Leading Beach Destination in 2013, 2016, and 2018.

The World Travel Awards was established in 1993 "to acknowledge, reward, and celebrate excellence across all key sectors of the travel, tourism, and hospitality industries." For 2020, we also got Asia's Leading Private Island Resort 2020: Amanpulo; Asia's Leading Business Hotel 2020: Discovery Primea; Asia's Leading Serviced Apartments: Ascott Bonifacio Global City Manila; Asia's Leading Tourist Attraction 2020: Intramuros; and Asia's Leading Tourist Board: Department of Tourism.
