The global tourism industry is on pause after the COVID-19 pandemic shut down the world, and the industry is eagerly awaiting the day it can reopen its doors. According to Forbes, there are seven countries that could become “rising stars” as places of major tourism in the post-COVID world.
And on that list is none other than the Philippines.
With a special mention of Palawan and Boracay, Forbes explained the Philippines has all the ingredients needed to become a world-class tourist spot: natural beauty, rich history, and thriving cultures.
Tourism Secretary Berna Romulo Puyat welcomed the distinction of being one of the seven countries that “have the potential to become major tourism destinations in a post-COVID world.”
“We are pleased to have received this bit of good news, especially after our industry had been hit hard by the global health pandemic. International recognition, especially by a well-respected publication like Forbes, in this post-COVID-19 world will go a long way in helping the Philippine tourism industry get back on its feet,” said Puyat.
“With the public’s health and safety in mind, we are preparing our tourism sites in areas now under the Modified General Community Quarantine for their gradual reopening for domestic tourism.”
Other countries on the list are: Ethiopia, Iran, Myanmar, Georgia, Slovenia, and Tunisia.
