Less than a couple of months after the Philippines was cited as Asia's Leading Beach Destination and Asia's Leading Dive Destination in the 28th World Travel Awards, the same award-giving body announced on December 16 that we are also the World's Leading Dive Destination for 2021. This is the third time in a row that the country bagged the title.
For the World's Leading Dive Destination title, the country was up against Azores Islands, Bora Bora, Cayman Islands, Fiji, Galapagos Islands, Great Barrier Reef, Maldives, and Mexico. The Philippines is also home to two other world-class destinations: Amanpulo in Palawan, which is recognized as the World's Leading Dive Resort; and City of Dreams Manila as the World's Leading Casino Resort.
Here are the other World Travel Awards that the Philippines snagged during the regional recognition on October 19:
- Cebu Pacific as Asia's Leading Most Efficient Airline
- Savoy Hotel Manila as Asia's Leading Airport Hotel
- Discovery Primea as Asia's Leading Business Hotel
- City of Dreams as Asia's Leading Casino Resort and Asia's Leading Fully Integrated Resort
- Amanpulo as Asia's Leading Private Island Resort
The World Travel Awards was established in 1993 "to acknowledge, reward and celebrate excellence across all key sectors of the travel, tourism and hospitality industries." It works through nomination and votation by "qualified executives working within travel and tourism and the consumer travel buyer."
