It's not going to be Logan Lerman this time around.

The Disney+ series adaptation of Percy Jackson and the Olympians is still in its early stages, but according to author Rick Riordan, the show is already starting its casting process to find the main characters that will lead the highly-anticipated show.

Unlike the regrettable film series that “aged up” characters, the Disney+ show will be staying loyal to the source material as it seeks out actors “who can play 12,” the original age of the protagonist Percy Jackson in the book series. The goal is to get a cast that can play 12 to 16 should the show make it all the way to five seasons if all goes well.

“I want to stress this is a preliminary search,” said Riordan. “We still have a long way to go before anything is official or confirmed, but this is definitely an indication that things are going in the right direction.”

According to Riordan, a call has been made to talent agencies to bring forth the best Percy for the project. The other roles to follow will be the remainder of the trio: Annabeth Chase and Grover Underwood. While the crew is now looking for someone who can “play 12,” Riordan notes that ethnicity is not part of the casting call description, in line with Disney’s company policy.

The Percy Jackson Disney+ series will be based on the best-selling five-book adventure series by Riordan, which was previously adapted into a short-lived film series which he described as witnessing his “life’s work going through a meat grinder.” Yikes.

While there’s no word yet on any frontrunners for the title role, we do know who fans want playing Poseidon: none other than the first actor of Percy himself, Logan Lerman.

The book series has sold over 70 million copies since it was first published in 2005, and many of its loyal readers are now in their 20s and 30s. Suffice to say, these grownups are quite excited for PJO to get the adaptation it deserves.
