Earlier this week, the Preview team joined Origins for a special Earth Month activity. For their Green the Planet campaign, we visited the Laguna Quezon Land Grant in Siniloan, Laguna and did tree planting in partnership with FEED, a non-profit organization committed to sustainable education for the environment. From our visit, we learned that there's so much more to being eco-friendly than skipping a plastic straw.
With more than 40 participants, the goal was to plant more than 500 trees. Part of the team are employees of Estée Lauder Companies and content creators such as Renée de Guzman, Bea Marin, Lexi Mendiola, and Yanna Cowper. It started off with a quick hike to the planting site, where all our seedlings awaited.

The planting project will help reforestation efforts for the Sierra Madre mountain range, which has been battered by unregulated logging from decades past. Representatives of FEED say that the mountain range protects us from climate-related calamities like typhoons, and it won't be able to do so if it continues to be as bare as it is now.
In fact, they add that the situation of Philippine forests in general is so dire that the law already started requiring us to plant trees. Section two of the Presidential Decree No. 1153 states that citizens and residents of the country over 10 years old are required to plant one tree every month for five years—that's 12 trees per person! Following this decree won't only help reforestation, it'll also give us the opportunity to offset our carbon footprint.

By the end of the activity, everyone ended up planting a total of 540 trees! FEED says that we can track the growth of our plants via Google Earth if we search its coordinates, too. How cool is that?
Of course, everyone had to take a group photo after—soil-stained hands and all!
So, when are you planting your tree this month?
