June & July Home Co. will help make your home an extension of yourself—a comforting, happy place, if you will.

Building a home is often a personal journey. It entails careful selection of pieces that speaks to you the most, things that spark the brightest joy, as Marie Kondo would put it. And in a pandemic-hit environment where the outside world is already too stressful to deal with, we rely on our homes—now, more than ever—to be our ultimate sanctuary. Perhaps it is aligned with this thinking that many of us has become power nesters, obsessed with cultivating our rooms and personal spaces to be the best they can be, to serve as our special corner. What more, with all the changes and disruptions that COVID-19 has brought upon us, busying ourselves in such an endeavor provided us a calming, soothing, and occupying task to distract us from the chaos.

The same is the case for newly-engaged couple, June, a 26-year-old makeup and brow artist, and July, a 27-year-old architect. Like the rest of us, their jobs have been gravely affected by the pandemic. And in their pursuit of other dreams and new livelihood, they both opened up June & July Home Co., an online store that curates special pieces to make your home an extension of yourself—a comforting, happy place, if you will.

We caught up with June and July, and in our exclusive interview, they share with us their love for curated home pieces that will turn your space into an aesthetic haven.

You have such a calming, minimalist aesthetic. What inspired you to have such a relaxing vibe?

"Thank you so much! We love watching “healing” vlogs, home cafes and home makeovers because it can always evoke a sense of calmness in us. We live in a time where life constantly bombards us with stress. It is inevitable for a life within the city. Our homes become our sanctuary after a stressful day so having minimal and aesthetic pieces that spark joy in our everyday life makes all the difference."

How do you choose the pieces that your brand carries?

"We love visiting local cafes and indie/vintage artisan shops abroad. This inspired us to find that feeling in our own home. It was not easy to look for the things we wanted when we were planning the renovation of our future home so this opened up an opportunity for us to curate the things we love and share it with everyone. The products we offer on our shop are the things that speaks to us and would love to use in our own sanctuary. Creating content for our products and sharing a part of our lives is our way of connecting to everyone."

Why did you choose the names June and July? Please tell us about yourselves.

"We had the idea to name our shop June & July since we are born under the Sun sign Cancer, so the name is very personal to us because it tells a bit behind who we are."

"June studied Multimedia Arts but she always loved interior design and styling so opening June & July was a small start to pursuing her dream. Meanwhile, July loves photography and design. He started an architectural firm last year but since he also wanted to explore his creativity in a different field, June & July also opened an opportunity for him to express his artistry."

How does your brand differ from the vast pool of Instagram shops selling home pieces, too?

"We believe our homes should be reflections of who we are and should tell the stories of the journeys we take. When we started June & July, our vision is to share the things that speak to us and would love to have in our own sanctuary. It is our way of sharing these stories through our products. Creating our own content for our collection and sharing a part of our lives is our way of connecting to everyone. It’s our platform to share the things that truly make our personal spaces have a soul, a story, and a purpose."

Could you share with us your tips in making such an aesthetic home?

"The key is to have clean, simple and uncluttered living but don’t hesitate to add colors! Always add your own personality into your home. Having an inspiration is one thing but creating your own aesthetic will always make your space more personal. We believe that aesthetic home cannot be judged objectively, for what one may find aesthetic, may not be the same to others."
