Have any long trips planned during the holidays? If you’re heading up north anytime soon, then you should be advised that traffic is expected to worsen along the northern tollways within the next few weeks.

A 10% surge in traffic volume along the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) is anticipated this Christmas season, as announced by the NLEX Corporation. In response to this, the company has resumed its ‘Safe Trip Mo Sagot Ko’ motorist assistance program to help mitigate the situation. Until January 6, 2020, additional personnel have been deployed for traffic management and toll collection purposes.

“As the peak travel season is already upon us, we are intensifying our customer-facing services to help shorten the travel time of our motorists, so they can spend more time with their families and friends,” said NLEX Corporation president and general manager J. Luigi Bautista.

The company has also identified the key toll plazas to watch for. These include Balintawak, Mindanao Avenue, Bocaue, San Fernando City, Tarlac City, and Tipo in Subic. To accommodate Manila-bound motorists, there will be up to 60 collection points installed in the main Bocaue Toll Barrier from December 26 to January 25, and toll tellers at the Tarlac City and Tipo toll plazas will also be issuing pre-encoded transit tickets during this period to reduce waiting time.

In the event of car breakdowns, free towing services to the nearest exit will be available from December 28 (6am) until December 29 (11:59pm) and from January 4 (6am) to January 6 (6am).

The NLEX Corporation has ensured that there will be no lane closures implemented along NLEX and SCTEX during the holidays unless there are road safety repairs that need to be made. Likewise, the company has also advised motorists who will be on the road this holiday season to regularly monitor its Twitter account in case important traffic advisories come up.

Safe travels this Christmas season, everyone!
