After the rumor generated buzz last June, streaming giant Netflix finally confirmed a Korean remake of their hit original series La Casa de Papel, alternatively titled Money Heist. The upcoming Netflix original will be produced in collaboration with BH Entertainment and Contents Zium.
“Korean creators have been developing their own language and audiovisual culture for years. They have managed, like our series, to go beyond cultural borders and become a point of reference for thousands of viewers around the world, especially among young people,” said Alex Pina, Creator and Executive Producer of La Casa de Papel. "That is why I find it fascinating that the world of La Casa de Papel is so attractive to Korean creators as to do an adaptation. The fact that the action is set on the Korean Peninsula also seems to me to be a milestone which I am really delighted about."

The cast and crew
Netflix has yet to announce an official cast list for the show. They did, however, reveal that director Kim Hong Sun will be helming the remake. Hailed as a giant in the fantasy crime genre, Hong Sun is best known for his work on Korean thrillers such as The Guest, Voice, and Black. Meanwhile, penning the script are Ryu Yong Jae along with his writing team. Known dramas under their belt include My Holo Love and the tvN series Psychopath Diary.
Though the plot has yet to be disclosed, a press release by Netflix revealed that fans can expect 12 episodes to come out of the show’s Korean remake.
The release date
No word on an official release date either, but K-drama website My Drama List has the show slated for 2021. Finger’s crossed it’s true, and we’ll have more to look forward to once the original Money Heist concludes with its fifth and final season next year.
