Here's your first glimpse of the Disney's new Mulan, Liu Yifei.
Disney has officially released the first image of Yifei as Mulan, signifying the start of the production for the live-action retelling of the classic film.
Yifei bagged the role of Hua Mulan after Disney's year-long global search in an effort to include a diverse cast. She is joined by actors Donnie Yen, Jason Scott Lee, Yoson An, Utkarsh Ambudkar, Ron Yuan, Tzi Ma, Rosalind Chao, Cheng Pei-Pei, Nelson Lee, Chum Ehelepola, Gong Li, and martial arts legend Jet Li.
The film will adapt Disney's 1998 animated film that tells the story of a young woman who disguised herself as a man to join the Imperial Army in a war against invaders attacking her homeland, China. Ming-Na Wen voiced Mulan in the film with the Philippines' very own Lea Salonga providing her singing voice.
Its live adaptation is set to hit the big screen on March 27, 2020. The film is directed by Niki Caro and its script is penned by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver. Mulan is reported to be shot in New Zealand and China.
