The Disney+ drama reportedly had twice the budget of “Squid Game.”

With its star-studded cast and jaw-dropping CGI, it’s safe to assume that Disney+’s Moving might have had a big budget at their disposal. In fact, according to reports, the superhero series has likely reached new heights as it is reportedly now the most expensive K-drama in history!

As mentioned by news sources like the South China Morning Post, the hit drama—a webtoon adaptation that delves into two generations of superpowered individuals—has a reported budget of around 65 billion Korean won for its 20 episodes, which is approximately 2.7 billion pesos. 

In a feature for the series, director Park In Je revealed that the he had never done a project that “required as much CGI as this.” The K-drama featured over 7,000 shots, with the help of VFX companies from nine different countries. Aside from the effects, cinematography, and stunt work involved, Moving also featured a high-profile cast, which included the likes of the Korean industry’s acting vets like Jo In Sung, Ryu Seung Ryong, and Han Hyo Joo.

The impressive number is already a stellar feat for most K-dramas, as even hits like Squid Game have a reported budget of only $21.4 million or P1.2 billion. Before Moving, the title of most expensive K-drama was given to the 2019 Song Joong Ki-starring fantasy series Arthdal Chronicles, which reportedly had a budget of 54 billion Korean won or 2.2 billion pesos.

The investment for Moving, however, seems to be worth it for Disney+, as the show has taken the helm as the platform’s most-watched K-drama merely seven days after its initial release. With its series finale now aired, fans are clamoring for a second season. All hopes are not dashed, however, as creator Kang Full said that it’s certainly a “possibility.” We’re crossing our fingers!
