The year’s almost over and you know what that means? It’s once again time to recognize the most popular K-dramas that came out in 2021—or those launched on Netflix, at least.
Early on in February, the streaming giant announced it was allotting a whopping $500 million for the production of original Korean content this year. Well, it looks like their pricey investment paid off, because three of their in-house developed K-dramas topped the list this 2021, ahead of shows created by Korea-based networks.
According to data accumulated by tracking app TV Time, subscribers watched Squid Game, Hellbound, and My Name the most, out of all the K-dramas available on the platform.

Squid Game landing on the coveted first spot comes at no surprise considering the hit drama found unprecedented success worldwide. It quickly became Netflix’s most watched series after it attracted 111 million viewers in its first month. While no official announcement has been made just yet, Director Hwang Dong Hyuk has already teased the possibility of the show returning for another season.
Following the global recognition this Netflix Korean original received, even more viewers tuned in to their next release, Hellbound, when it came out last November. In just a record-breaking 24 hours, the Yoo Ah In-led drama soon dethroned Squid Game to become the streamer’s most watched TV show.
Going back to the list, fan-favorites Vincenzo and Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha came in at number four and number seven, respectively.

Below, check out the 10 most viewed K-dramas on Netflix this 2021:
Note: As per TV Time, their data was garnered in between January 1, 2021 to December 7, 2021.
- Squid Game
- Hellbound
- My Name
- Vincenzo
- Sweet Home
- Love Alarm
- Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha
- Nevertheless
- Run On
- Sisyphus
Park Eun Bin’s historical romance drama The King’s Affection also received a lot of love from Netflix viewers. However, since the KBS show was released just this October 2021, it had less time on the platform and therefore did not make it to the year-end list, as noted by Forbes.
